Community-based forest crime monitoring
Over twelve months we will establish community monitoring groups, train rangers, run regular patrols in priority areas and build the Ulu Masen landscape’s first forest-crime baseline — a practical, low-cost model designed to scale.
Targets
- 12 villages in a community monitoring network
- 60 community rangers trained in SMART patrol methods
- 120 community patrols across priority areas
- 1 landscape-wide forest crime baseline report
How the system works
- Detect – trained rangers patrol using GPS, SMART and camera traps.
- Document – every incident recorded with coordinates, photos and logs.
- Report – data flows into a Forest Crime Information System with an incident dashboard and quarterly hotspot analysis.
- Respond – a coordination mechanism with BKSDA Aceh, KPH and district governments turns evidence into action.
